Abstract
The present paper compares and discusses the advantages, disadvantages and performance of the principal tendencies presented in the last researches made around the topic of the WDM-PON networks, focusing in those aiming to achieve high data rate transmission in the uplink channels. By means of simulation models, it is demonstrated that VCSELs have some remarkable advantages over RSOAs particularly in high data rate per channel WDM-PON transmissions.
