Abstract
The reproduction of color images often requires color correction. The original image may have been recorded under one illumination while the reproduction is to be viewed under another or made to appear as if it were recorded under another. Since it is often the case that the original illumination is unknown to the image scientist, it is necessary to estimate. Two methods are presented for estimating the illuminant. The sensitivity of the methods to various assumptions is discussed
