Abstract :
Real-time monitoring and automated management of Low Voltage grids is foreseen to bring: a) improved utilization of existing grid capacity, and b) acceptable power quality under large amounts of decentralized production and fluctuating demand. In this work, we introduce a joint photovoltaic (PV) and electrical vehicle (EV) control approach encapsulated in a low voltage grid controller. Central to our approach, is the utilization of measurements from emerging smart meter deployments. The key mechanism applied for control is the estimation of available power. It enables an efficient interplay between production and EV charging control while maintaining fair allocation of grid resources among the users, and practically eliminating grid events. Finally, the impact of the smart metering sampling period is studied on a measurement corrected prediction error model. Results suggest that sampling periods no larger than 2h should be targeted.
