  • Abstract
This study evaluates the important emerging technologies that would enable 10 Gb/s WDM metro transport to become cost-effective. Reconfigurable OADMs improve significantly planning flexibility. Tunability reduces inventory cost. Moreover, advancements in electronics, EML, and eventually DML, EFEC, and eventually EDE, could enable lower cost multi-service pluggable transceivers.
