Abstract :
To improve the effectiveness of the database system in the development of Dam Safety Monitoring System, combing with a development project whose database model is based on multi-dimensional model principles, elements of dimensional database model have been interpreted intensively such as factual tables, dimensional tables, star and snowflake modes and so on. Then modeling principles and process are explored deeply. Finally, steps of the monitoring system development have been in in-depth analysis, including choosing a life cycle, setting system parameters, identifying working process, constructing the conceptual data model, preparing the database schema and designing user-interfaces. The development example has shown that the multi-dimensional model can improve the effectiveness of the database greatly in system development of dam safety monitoring.
