Abstract
We outline a Fourier based algorithm for application to SAR image formation using ultra wide band (UWB) radar signals. We illustrate application of the processor to simulated imagery based on backscatter from canonical targets such as a sphere, dipole and flat plate. The predictions are made directly in the time domain using a finite difference time domain scattering code. We illustrate the effect of antenna distortions on the quality of the imagery obtained and show that important image distortions can arise due to the frequency dependence of the backscattered signal
