The external recirculation ratio R of IC anaerobic reactor is a key parameter to obtain a high removal rate of Chemical Oxygen Demand (CODCr) for the treatment of high-strength organic wastewater, and at present, the determination of R is often relied on the experiences. The feasible experimental method for the determination of best R is created through the research of pilot scale test and numerical simulation. In the study, firstly, the sketch map of materials calculation model in IC anaerobic reactor is constructed to get the aerogenesis model equations and the balance equation in the water distribution district; then, a set of self-designed IC anaerobic reactor with effective volume 140L is used to treat high-strength synthetic glucose wastewater, and the related data of the test process is gathered to calculate the hydromechanics characteristic parameters in the two equations; finally, the effect of the different values of R to IC anaerobic reactor is discussed through the numerical simulation of the two equations. The result of the simulation shows: the best value of R of high-strength organic wastewater is between 0.3 and 0.5. The determination of this value plays a key role in practice: the optimized characteristic parameters from this test is applied for the demonstration project operation of 250 m3/d yellow ginger saponin high-strength organic wastewater treatment in Shiyan city, Hubei province, and a good effect up to the effluent standards is obtained.
