Abstract
A delta-sigma modulator is effectively utilized as a PWM pattern generator for high-frequency switching mode inverters or converters. By using a delta-sigma modulator, automatic amplitude control scheme and reduced noise level based on spread spectrum nature are realized together with simplification of converter design. In addition to these inherent features, on the basis of applying pulse space modulation approach, the authors propose a novel delta-sigma modulation circuit for a single phase power factor correction (PFC) converter. From the computer simulation results, the proposed PFC converter has the current regulated characteristics under high power factor operation
