Abstract :
A knowledge based expert system for diagnosing casting defects is developed by using artificial intelligence technology. The knowledge base of the system is formed by the production rules. The uncertain problem of knowledge is solved using the forward-backward inference control strategy and certainty theory. The defect diagnosis of casting is realized according to the human expert´s mode of thinking. The knowledge representation, inference technology and composition of the system are mainly discussed in the paper.
