Abstract :
This paper presents the architecture of a digital signal processor (DSP) based control system for the first ±20 MVAr STATCOM in China. The control system includes the pulse generation and distribution unit for driving the GTO-based inverters and the central control unit. Both the units are based on DSP of TMS320C31. This paper gives the details of hardware and software development of the control system which was successfully applied to the first ±20 MVAr STATCOM in China in March, 1999. The field test results are also reported to verify the effectiveness of the control system in this paper
