Abstract :
We discuss fundamental physical bounds on the possibility of achieving electromagnetic invisibility for a given object and a given bandwidth, based on the passivity, causality and linearity of the scattering system. By applying Bode-Fano theory to an equivalent circuit for the scattering coefficients, we derive limitations on bandwidth and scattering reduction uniquely determined by the object to be cloaked and valid for any passive cloaking scheme.
