Abstract :
A broadband tapered V-antenna is designed by a new synthesis method for the geometry of the antenna. Because of its application to a broadband spectrometer, over a bandwidth of at least 20 : 1 the gain of the antenna should be nearly constant and the VSWR should be low. The characteristics of the designed antenna are analysed by a numerical method described by Richmond. An antenna version with resistively loaded ends of the wires has a maximum gain variation of 3.2 dB. The VSWR is equal to 1.7 over almost the entire frequency range, only peaking to 2.6 at the lowest frequency.
