Abstract
We suggest an efficient extension of the separation of variables method (SVM) to the case of scatterers with multiple layers. Two possible computational schemes are described and their numerical analysis and comparison with the extended boundary conditions method (EBCM) are done. The new approach is shown to provide highly accurate results for simple shape particles (e.g., spheroids, Chebyshev particles) with a large number of layers (10 and more). Such scatterers cannot be efficiently treated by any of other exact methods.
