Abstract :
This paper presents the design guidelines for the first time as well as simulation and measured results of a planar multi-turn loop antenna for wireless blood pressure monitoring system operating in the range 190-203 MHz. This antenna is essential for communication with a blood pressure sensor implanted in a human body. In order to demonstrate the coupling characteristics between the planar multi-turn loop antenna and the sensor, a sensor board consisting of a chip sensor (high Q-factor chip inductor/radiator integrated with a chip capacitor in parallel configuration) and coplanar waveguide has been designed and characterized. The measured coupling characteristics through air as well as air and phantom tissue are also presented.
