Abstract :
A 2-D content-based triangular mesh structure is proposed for object-based video coding schemes. The mesh design process utilizes a fast color segmentation technique which allows the boundaries of the wireframe patches to effectively match the scene content. The proposed method essentially consists of three components: (i) a face localization stage (for videophone-type applications), (ii) a general color segmentation technique, and() a nodal point placement and triangulation scheme. The proposed approach not only improves the coding efficiency, but it can also support content-based functionalities of future object-based coders
