Abstract
Reducing peak system demand is generally regarded as a crucial step in deferring investment in electricity networks and improving overall performance. Several utilities have explored the used of voltage control for peak reduction but the results are inconclusive. This paper presents results of an ongoing study of the potential of voltage control for demand reduction within the UK distribution network. A stochastic simulation approach using detailed low-voltage residential load models and network models is implemented to quantify the scale of demand reduction for step change in voltage magnitude.
