Abstract
Mobility and multihoming are usually considered as separate concepts and thus, they are handled by distinct protocols. Instead, our approach in this paper reverses that paradigm by proposing a unified solution that jointly manages both mobility and multihoming. Our solution is based on two protocols standardized by the IETF: Shim6 which provides a multihoming support to the end-hosts and mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) which manages node mobility. We have evaluated our proposal on a dedicated testbed and have shown that our solution efficiently manages both mobility and multihoming. This solution is of threefold interest. Compared to Shim6, our framework efficiently detects node movement and resolves the double jump problem. Similarly, compared to MIPv6, our framework provides a lightweight routing optimization which does not require a return routability check. Finally, our framework ensures a fault-tolerant home network.
