Abstract :
A three-dimensional, hexagonal configuration of six sub-arrays of microstrip patch antennas is used to realize an omni-directional antenna. Each sub-array is comprised of two pairs of aperture-coupled and series-fed elements, and includes a hybrid 180 degree rat race coupler. The antenna operates in the C-band and has a 30 degree elevation beamwidth with over 600 MHz of bandwidth. The impact of increasing the ground plane dimension of the sub-arrays is also investigated.
