Abstract
This paper presents a novel method and implementation for robust range estimation from image data. The method is a variation of those that utilize the focusing properties of lens systems for the range estimation. Our method uses three (CCD) matrix camera elements that are arranged on the same optical axis of one fixed lens. The optical arrangement is introduced, and the image processing methods described. The performance of the method is visualized using a real unstructured test picture
