Abstract :
In the context of most British industry, North West Water provides an unusual case study of the management of change. The author describes its experience since 1991 of transforming a public utility into an efficient privatised business, which represents major change on many fronts: cultural; financial; organisational; and technological. At the same time, continuity in supplying its traditional public services has been vital.
