Title :
Master planning: turning vision into action (change management)
Author_Institution :
Ingersoll Eng. Ltd., Rugby, UK
Abstract :
This paper focuses on the plan for a change programme to create the successful business of the future. To put the need for the plan in context, the authors´ surveys and work have led him to conclude that managing directors rightly focus on the long-term vision for the business, but often fail to flesh it out sufficiently to make it tangible to the very managers who have to implement the vision. This is often compounded by failure to communicate the plan, such as it might exist, properly. Middle managers feel they had had a half-thought-through idea dumped on them by a managing director who probably wouldn´t be around in two to three years´ time when the ´plan´ was intended to be delivered. Their questioning is often misinterpreted as resistance. Master planning bridges the gap and turns the long-term vision for the business into practical, tangible plans.
