Abstract :
Innovation and continuous improvement are central to the vision that the government has for the future competitiveness of the UK. The difficult economic climate that companies have faced over the last couple of years has provided a great incentive to companies to be innovative in order to survive. As we move out of recession, that impetus for improvement must be maintained by other means. The author details how DTI will continue with programmes that assist industry to take up new ideas, from wherever they come. The best practice that has been identified in programmes such as MOPS (manufacturing operations people and systems) are worth detailed consideration by companies of all types.
