Abstract :
The paper presents an application of data compression in vibration analysis. A linear transformation procedure based on the wavelet transform is used for feature selection in the data. A simple genetic algorithm is employed to extract wavelet coefficients which represents these features in the time-scale domain. The method is applied to the compression of gearbox vibration spectra showing a potential for storage, transmission and fault feature selection for condition monitoring
