Abstract
In this paper, a method for designing PID controller for higher order systems is proposed. The higher order system is reduced into first order plus delay time (FOPDT) model using frequency response fitting. The tuning term is obtained to get the well tuned parameters of the controller from maximum sensitivity function. The proposed method has only one parameter to tune and therefore provides simple and effective solution for large class of systems. Two simulation examples and real time experimentation are incorporated to show the effectiveness of proposed algorithm.
