Abstract :
Ant colony optimization is a metaheuristics approach which is inspired from the behavior of real ants. It was introduced in the early 1990´s as a new method to tackle hard combinatorial optimization problems. We review the origin of the ACO and introduce ACO in a way that suits its theoretical study. Then we make a summary of the recent application of ACO, especially the application to vehicle routing problem and shop scheduling problem.
