Abstract :
One of the important functions of wireless mesh networks is multi-hop packet forwarding among fixed wireless routers. This paper proposes a multi-hop adaptive forward error correction (MFEC) control scheme implemented in each wireless mesh router present at each hop. The MFEC control scheme provides FEC encoding/decoding capabilities at each mesh router. Our proposed control scheme tunes the FEC redundancy generated in such a way that it would not add more traffic to an already congested network condition at each mesh router. We evaluate our proposed MFEC scheme in a real-world scenario. Our performance results demonstrate that our proposed MFEC outperforms a pure end-to-end strategy by 10- 15 dB for video peak-signal-to-noise-ratio (PSNR).
