Abstract :
Shield wire segmentation is an effective method for reducing transmission line power losses. This paper presents a comparison of simulation results of a switching transient overvoltage study on transmission lines with segmented shield wires versus traditional continuous shield wires for a typical 500-kV transmission line. The difference in overvoltage is analyzed by the high frequency characteristic of the transient overvoltage.
