Abstract :
Explains the importance of concurrent engineering and its impact on product development success. Several cases studies of how Sun Microsystems practices concurrent engineering are presented. Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation is the world´s largest leading supplier of open client-server computing solutions. The headquarters is located in Mountain View, California and Sun Microsystems has manufacturing plants in Milpitas, California; Linlithgow, Scotland and Westford, Massachusetts. The Company was founded in 1982 and has grown to multi-billion dollar corporation in ten years. Despite these difficult economic times, Sun Microsystems has continued along a successful path. Revenues and sales have grown steadily. Why Is Sun Microsystems doing so well? This paper answers this question as well as illustrating the effects of applying various concurrent engineering principles. It focuses on the operations of the “East Coast” division of Sun Microsystems
