Abstract
This paper is concerned with the simultaneous design of plant structure parameters (passive components) and controllers (active components) in order to achieve the optimal system performance. First, a fairly general framework for the simultaneous design problem is proposed based on linear fractional transformation. Next, it is shown that the problem can be reduced to a bilinear matrix inequality (BMI) problem, using an appropriate descriptor form representation. To solve the BMI problems, we propose a computation procedure which is suitable for the simultaneous design, and evaluate its effectiveness via numerical example
