Abstract
This paper describes the high wind speeds required by economically feasible horizontal axis wind turbines and presents a solution in the form of an ultra-low cost vertical axis wind turbine optimized for lower average wind speeds increasing the feasible wind farming land area within the United States. The feasibility, design, and optimization of localized vertical axis wind turbine farms in regions where wind speeds are lower and less predictable in direction is presented.
