Abstract :
The software engineering community has been slow to adapt measurement into industrial practice. This article reviews some of the probable causes of this situation, suggests a general approach to metrification, and identifies the most common industrial applications of measurement. These basic applications include project estimation, project tracking, product quality control, product design improvement, process quality control, and process improvement
