Abstract :
Techniques for providing reliable end-to-end communication in the tactical ATM environment. Our simulation study considers enhancements to the physical layer, medium access control (MAC) sublayer, and the TCP protocol, while our testbed experiments focus solely on TCP extensions. In both cases, we measure the end-to-end performance as a function of delay and bit-error rate. We find that link-level automatic repeat request (ARQ) mechanisms, large TCP windows, and the use of selective acknowledgments can improve end-to-end throughput performance in the tactical ATM environment
