Abstract :
This paper describes the design and fabrication of a miniaturized oscillating pump. The pump weighs only 28 grams, and consists of five major components: neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) permanent magnet, nonferrous casing, silicon steel bars, Teflon in/out terminal tubes and copper coils. It was fabricated by using precision machines such as wire-cutting, laser welding and CNC machine. The total size of the pump is 60×16×9 mm. With an operating voltage from 2-8 Vp-pand a frequency from 1-10 Hz, flow rates up to 10 ml/min can be obtained by the pump prototype. This pump is suitable for a wide range of applications such as biomedical instrumentation, and pharmaceutical sciences. Replacing the pump is non-prohibitive due to the low cost of production.
