Abstract :
It is difficult to obtain ideal target tracking when using conventional PID to control Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and Variable Nozzle Turbocharger (VNT) in diesel engines. One apparent cause is non-linearity due to saturation of EGR and VNT. In this paper, we apply Model Predictive Control (MPC) to overcome this problem by treating the saturation as a constraint condition. In addition, we construct a state observer of plant model including dead time elements represented by Padé approximation to ensure stable model predictive controller. We also achieve an improvement in target tracking precision in transient response and transient mode assessment tests.
