Abstract
A review of current technical trends in the field of optical interconnections is given. Emphasis is placed on systems applications in which guided wave optics (optical fibers, polymer channel waveguides, substrate mode waveguide holograms) are used. In the review, several case studies of optical interconnect systems applications are cited. Experimental data are given. Projections are made on the future use of optics in high-speed switching machines
