Abstract :
In the present paper we propose a mathematical model of postprandial glycemia that considers the impact on blood glucose levels depending on the available carbohydrate amount and glycemic index. This glucose-insulin model is based on glucose dynamics from Bergman minimal model and insulin kinetics from Shimoda model, with the addition of relative glucose function, insulin bolus relativity function, and parameters from carbohydrate composition. Additionally, subcutaneous and intravenous insulin administration routes are also considered. Results from simulations show that the model proposed can estimate postprandial glycemic excursion using varying carbohydrate amounts and GI, with the administration of an insulin lispro bolus dose.
