Abstract
The signature file method has been recently thought as a useful text retrieval method when inverted file method is not available. However, traditional word-oriented signature file methods cannot retrieve all the relevant text items in the variable-spacing environment such as Korean text. This paper describes the Space Ignoring Method (SIM) that can retrieve all the relevant text items irrespective of the word-spacing forms of the compound noun queries. The advantages of this method are presented by mathematical analysis and experimental performance comparison with a word-oriented method.<>
