Next generation of Chinese text-to-speech system

The author presents a concept of speech characteristic database of Chinese text-to-speech conversion. The database gives a complete description from Chinese characters to speech. The speech characteristic database is composed of basic speech database and rules. The basic speech database includes tone syllables, neutral tone syllables and everyday expressions. The rules include pronunciation, tales of words, grammatical rules and semantic feature rules. Based on basic speech database, the description from Chinese characters to speech can be completed by the tales. Perfecting the database is the basis of realizing high qualitative Chinese text-to-speech conversion. According to the speech characteristic database, a Chinese text-to-speech system is developed.<>
