Abstract
Automatic license plate recognition is one of the crucial steps for any intelligent transportation application. License plate recognition is done in many approaches. However, license plate recognition in Indian scenario is very complex because, there is no unique standard for the plate. Even though the government stipulated the standards on how to write the plate and where to display, many people disobey those rules, making it complex for the systems to recognize. The proposed morphological based method aptly suits for the Indian context. The results obtained show that the location of the license plate can be obtained by following the proposed method. Future work focuses on the reading the charters of the obtained license plate.
