Abstract :
This paper presents an improved method for microwave detection of breast cancer with a flanged parallel-plate dielectric waveguide probe, based on detecting the dielectric contrast between a tumor and the surrounding breast tissue. Presence of a tumor is derived from the resonant characteristics of the backscattered signal received. Simulations demonstrate a good return loss over a useful bandwidth and the effectiveness to detect an object with dielectric contrast from its surrounding medium.
