Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. For the purpose of discharge cleaning and high beta related studies in a low magnetic field strengths of kG range, the plasma production using helicon (whistler) waves in radiofrequency (RF) range is useful because high power RF sources are cheaper than microwave ones and plasma production in a wide range of magnetic field strength is available for fixed frequency. The helicon wave discharge is applied on the compact helical system (CHS) which is torsatron-type device having l=2/m=8 helical structure, and major and minor radius are 1 m and 0.2 m, respectively.
