Abstract :
The combination of different electrical measurements on liquid crystal (display) cells yields a consistent model for charge transport and accumulation. At small timescales (ms) the charge transport is dominated by mobile ions, but on long timescales (hrs) it is demonstrated that the (bulk) generation of extremely. low mobility ions determines the transport. These slow ions accumulate at an ionic double layer at the interface, giving rise to an electric field over the polyimide alignment layer.
