  • Abstract
The Gabor transform is a time-frequency transform in which the signals are expressed as the sum of wavelets of sinusoidal form and Gaussian amplitude variation. In this paper, we propose the Gabor transform as a measurement technique useful for detection and analysis of short-time transient phenomena. In particular, our purpose is to detect partial discharges, which show up as very short pulses added to the low frequency power carrier. Capabilities of a Gabor-like algorithm for partial discharge detection are discussed in the paper, as well as the influence of mathematical and instrumental parameters on the performance of the method
