Abstract
This paper focuses on the coupling of ultra wideband (UWB) fields into marine equipment and discusses possible hardening techniques to increase the equipment´s immunity. An evaluation procedure to determine the coupled disturbances e.g. the induced voltage at the input of an electronic component using numerically computed field and coupling transfer functions of the system is presented. This method is based on the computation of the electric field in the close vicinity of the test network, which is similar to the structure of the steering control of a real ship. Afterwards, this field is used for the excitation of the test network to calculate the coupled voltages. The results of the simulation process are used to derive the presented hardening measures.
