  • Abstract
    Summary form only given, as follows. A large area position-sensitive multi-wire proportional counter with a, delay-line readout and supporting electronics has been developed for the X-ray imaging crystal spectrometers at the Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research (KSTAR). These spectrometers will provide radial profiles of the ion and electron temperatures as well as profiles of the plasma rotation velocity and the ionization equilibrium from the X-ray spectra of helium-like argon and krypton, A prototype of this new kind of X-ray crystal spectrometer is presently being installed at the National Spherical Torus Experiment (NSTX) and will be equiped with the above-mentioned detector system for first operation during the present NSTX experimental campaign. These first measurements will be important as a proof-of-principle experiment for the X-ray imaging crystal spectrometer and for tests of the detector performance. The paper will describe the various options for the data analysis of experimental results obtained from different plasma discharges with pure ohmic heating as well as plasmas with RF and neutral-beam heating.
