Abstract :
This article explores the use of nonlinear output feedback control schemes as power system stabilizers (PSS). We apply five different control schemes to a single generator-infinite bus power system in order to compare their behavior. Specifically, we are interested in the controllers´ ability to handle disturbances (model inaccuracies, measurement noise, etc.). The control methods used are fuzzy control, sliding mode control, two Lyapunov-based robust control methods and a standard linear PSS. It is found that the linear robust and fuzzy controllers had the best overall behavior
