Abstract :
Summary form only given. Welcome to Eighth IEEE International Symposium on Wearable Computers in Arlington, VA, across the Potomac River from Washington DC. We are once again co-located with the Third IEEE and ACM International Symposium on Mixed Reality and Augmented Reality, bringing together the wearable and MR/AR communities. There were over one hundred submissions this year. The program includes 14 long papers, 10 short papers and 14 posters. The overall acceptance rate for papers was 29%, with the acceptance rate for long papers at 23%. We would like to comment on a few features of this year??s program. Firstly, we are very happy to see the research effort into health, textiles, and interaction technologies. The field of Wearable Computers is growing from simple example programs to complex integrated solutions involving new materials, algorithms and devices. Exciting new technologies will be presented in the areas of human computer interaction, embedded sensing devices, low power systems and a large number of new applications. The Wearable Computer community is truly an international one. Papers and posters will be presented by individuals from around the world, including the USA, China, UK, Switzerland, Japan, Sweden, Germany, and Australia.
