Abstract
In the VLSI macro-cell placement problem routing areas are typically included within the perimeter of the cells. We present a genetic solver for the placement problem where the routing area is considered separately from the cell area. This allows us to explicitly account for power dissipation. We demonstrate efficient placements in short cpu times
