Abstract :
WiMAX packet networks are considered an attractive broadband wireless technology for 4G networks due to the support of quality of service (QoS) they provide. Radio resource allocation is an important part of the WiMAX QoS framework and a great part of its design and implementation is left to the vendor. Current WiMAX standard defines the real time polling service (rtPS) as the polling service for too bursty variable bit rate (VBR) traffic in the uplink, such as video traffic. An important factor in the performance of polling is the polling or the service interval. The conventional rtPS uses a fixed interval. This introduces unnecessary delays for the video MAC protocol data units (MPDU) in many cases. In this paper, we propose the concept of the adaptive minimum service interval (AmSI) for VBR video in the uplink (UL) and show by simulation that the mean video MPDU delay is reduced significantly for a low number of nodes.
