Abstract
The theory of rough sets was initiated by Pawlak in 1982. Later on, Molodtsov proposed the concept of a soft set, which can be seen as a new mathematical approach to vagueness. The present paper aims to combine the soft set approach with rough set theory, which gives rise to the new concepts of soft approximation spaces, soft rough approximations and soft rough sets. We investigate some basic properties of soft rough approximations and introduce several related notions. Moreover, we discuss applications of soft rough sets to demand analysis with an illustrating example.
